Biography

Kimberly Batchelor Davis is an author and screenwriter of tales of fiction, which include current events featuring high drama and suspense. Her debut short story Rose and the Enchanted Seven will be released online as an e-book. Kimberly is also an event planner and fundraising consultant. She is a life-long resident of Detroit, Michigan who is married with two sons. Kimberly is a precinct delegate, community organizer who is very active in her community. She sits on o several non-profit boards and supports her husband’s passion of working with kids through sports. In her spare time she loves watching movies, reading a good book, experiencing new cultures, travelling and writing. National Inspirational Role Models Month Celebration Features Family Literacy EventNational Inspirational Role Models Month (NIRMM) Family Fun & Literacy Innovations Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Detroit Public Library – Redford Branch (21200 Grand River, Detroit 48219). Program participants include Excellent Schools Detroit Chief Executive Officer Dan Varner, Author of Plant A Seed…Read!! 101 Activities to Motivate Children to Read Gwendolyn R. Lewis plus Poet/Educator Brittany Pauling. Additional activities include: NIRMM Inspired Readers, interactive games, prize drawings, make & take activity time and light refreshments. Books will be available for purchase at the event. The first 50 guests to call 313.778.1550 to register for the free NIRMM Family Fun & Literacy Innovations Day will receive a special commemorative celebration gift.

The 2013 NIRMM theme is "Revisiting Past Creations to Inspire Future Innovations". Liberation Film Series presents Negroes with Guns: Rob Williams and Black Power Screening & Discussion

Negroes with Guns: Rob Williams and Black Power tells the dramatic story of the often-forgotten civil rights leader who urged African Americans to arm themselves against oppression. In doing so, Williams not only challenged the Klan-dominated establishment of his hometown of Monroe, North Carolina, he also alienated the mainstream Civil Rights Movement, which advocated peaceful resistance. Following the film will be a discussion of the right to Black self-defense led by Reverend John Williams, Esq. (son of Robert F. Williams), Dr. Gloria House (Aneb Kgositsile), Mabel Williams (widow of Robert F. Williams), and General Gordon Baker, Jr (founding member, League of the Revolutionary Black Workers). Free.

Organized by Con/Vida – Popular Arts of the Americas, in partnership with The Wright Museum, Bandits & Heroes, Poets & Saints features nearly 200 works of art by more than 50 artists and tells the story of how African, European, and indigenous cultural traditions have interacted over a period of more than 500 years to form this distinctive regional culture of the largest country in South America. Brazil is home to one of the largest populations of African descendents in the world, with more than 75 million people. During the 16th through 19th centuries, an estimated 5 million Africans were brought over to Brazil into slavery, ten times the estimated 500,000 Africans that were brought to the United States. Twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University founded the Sorority on January 13, 1913, with the objective of using their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913. The Bombay Sapphire® Artisan Series at The Wright Museum

Detroit area artists submitted 147 works of art to the annual Bombay Sapphire® Artisan Series competition, 24 pieces of which were selected for inclusion in this exhibition, which includes works of emerging, experienced, and master artists such as Clifford Wade, Valencia Brockington, Lobyn Hamilton, Raymond Wells, Desiree Kelly, and Allie McGhee.
