FERNDALE, MI – Local author Jeff Morrison wrote an extensive love letter to the historic architecture of the Motor City, focusing on the overlooked and hidden gems of sculptural art with Guardians of Detroit. Morrison will be talking about the beauty and prestige of these works at the Ferndale Library on Wed., May 29, including a look into the research and photography featured in his book.

Offered in partnership by Y Arts Detroit and Eclectic PR, this 3-hour workshop by Cherrie Woods is designed to give creative entrepreneurs insight into the world of public relations (PR). The workshop will focus on empowering attendees to build businesses that are balanced, productive and sustainable utilizing best PR practices.
The session will finish with a panel of talented and successful local artists discussing their artists’ journey and tips for securing opportunities outside Michigan. Panelists include:
Mike Monford (jazz historian/musician),
Geno Harris (artist, gallerist), Courtney
Burkett (Detroit Public Theatre) and
Natalie Frakes (violinist/educator).
Cherrie Woods is a 16-year plus public relations (PR) veteran known for her work as a consultant, publicist and workshop facilitator for creative entrepreneurs. She has held staff, consulting and management positions at Detroit Institute of Arts, Ntouch Communications Group, Harbourfront Centre (Toronto), Reginald F. Lewis Museum and City of Baltimore (Baltimore). Woods is the author of Where Do I Start? 10 PR Questions and Answers to Guide Self-Published Authors as well as an award-winning poet. She has been featured in several media outlets for her PR work including Michigan Chronicle, Detroit News, The Culvert Chronicles, The Baltimore Sun, Fox45-TV, WJZ-TV, WEAA.88.9, SiriusXM and Maryland Public Television.

L.A. (Laurie) will focus on the craft and business of writing and provide lots of encouragement in this participative workshop. And she's bringing door prizes!

Critique Session:
  • bring writing tool of choice
  • manuscript for critique (2 pages, double spaced, 12 font), bring 7 sets
  • book that has been helpful to your writing

Critique Guidelines:
  • Be kind
  • Be specific 
  • Be encouraging
  • Be careful (critique on style and technique, not your opinion)*;) winking
