The Made in Michigan Writers Series is devoted to highlighting the works of distinguished statewide writers to showcase Michigan's diverse voices. Since 2006, the series has published poetry, creative nonfiction, short fiction, and essays by Michigan writers with the aim of encouraging the recognition of the state's artistic and cultural heritage throughout Michigan, the Midwest, and the nation.

Located on the mid-east side of Detroit, this sure to be epic event will be held in two locations. The "HUSTLE" will kick off at the CG Community Center ( 2326 East Seven Mile). Authors will be able to sell their books from 12pm until 6pm. 
 And if that's not enough time to introduce your masterpieces to countless readers, library reps, and book clubs; we've added the "GRIND".
That will be held at Hood Book Headquarters (2407 East Seven Mile) from 6pm until 12am. 
So yes...that's a total of 12 SOLID HOURS of Detroit Hustle & Grind time bookselling!

Lenewee Library Author Fair Application Due March 24th @lenawee_library

 

 

The LDL 2018 Author Fair will take place at the Main Branch on Saturday, April 21st from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.  There will be room for 16 local authors.  To apply for a spot, fill out the application form completely and return it to the Main Branch no later than Monday, March 24th at 5:30 p.m.  The first 16 applications submitted that meet our guidelines will be granted a table at the author fair.  

Authors will be contacted by April 7th via email to confirm their spot in the fair.   

 

      

 

       The following rules apply:

  • All authors must be local (Lenawee County and closely surrounded areas)
  • You must be a published author
  • We encourage authors to have physical copies of their books; however, authors published only digital may also attend as long as they have promotional materials
  • Each author must bring their own displays and advertisements
  • Displays must be "family friendly"
  • You can promote and sell your books, but you cannot use the author fair to promote or sell items from any of your other businesses

This year, we are proud to offer breakout sessions with six area professionals on the topics of poetry, self-promoting with podcasts, memoirs, working with publishers, writing for children and story shaping. All genres and skill levels are welcome. For teens and adults. Sign up for limited, one-on-one editing sessions separately.

Great Lakes Poetry Anthology accepting submissions through June 30th

Great Lakes Poetry Anthology

Split Rock Review invites poetry submissions for its Great Lakes Poetry Anthology, to be published in winter 2018. Submissions will be accepted May 1 - June 30, 2018.
SRR seeks poems that celebrate and emphasize the beauty, uniqueness, diversity, history, ecology, geological wonders, and importance of the Laurentian Great Lakes and the communities surrounding them.
Do you have poems that explore the history of transportation, migration, shipping and trade of the Great Lakes? Poems about the native or non-native species that inhabit the mysterious waters? Poems that capture the awe-inspiring storms born from the lakes? If so, send your best poems inspired by the Laurentian Great Lakes to Split Rock Review!
Contributors will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology upon publication. All poems submitted must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions allowed. No submission fee! For more information and submission guidelines, visit: www.splitrockreview.org/submit.

Nikki Giovanni is a poet, activist, mother, and professor. Her fiery voice has informed our national consciousness, while her spiritual gifts as healer and sage have charmed our hearts. She's returning to NWS to talk about her newest book, A Good Cry—a rumination of her childhood and the joy and peril of aging. 

Doors open at 6 pm with live music, cash bar and Morsels.
