4th Annual
Genealogy Lock-In


Date: Thursday, June 20th
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Location: Third Level, Library

On Thursday, June 20th the Southfield Public Library, with generous support from the Southfield City Centre, is pleased to offer its 4th annual Genealogy Lock-In.

This popular program is a Study Hall where genealogists of any level can gather together in the Library to conduct their research. The Library doors will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to pre-registered Lock-In researchers only. Promptly at 7:00 p.m., the doors will close and the researchers will be in effect locked in until 10:00 p.m. It's a self-directed opportunity to research, organize, write or simply ponder your family history during those hours of peace and quiet.

There is a $10 fee, payable in exact cash on the night of the Lock-In. You must be at least 18 years old to participate. Registration begins Monday, June 3, either by phone (248) 796-4224 or in person at the Guest Services desk; please specify whether you plan to use a Library computer or will bring your own. Reservations are limited, so reserve your spot early!

Reading Is Our Thing!

Join us for the Southfield Public Library Summer Library Program Reading is Our Thing!

This reading enrichment program is for children who live or attend school in Southfield or Lathrup Village and will be in Pre-K thru 5th grade in Fall, 2013 (ages 3-10). Registration begins on Monday, June 3rd and ends Monday, July 8th at the Youth Services Desk. Children must be present to register.

Each child will receive a record to keep track of their independent reading. When they complete their reading record, they will be invited to the Final Party at the end of the summer. Registered children may also attend all of the programs listed below.

Jazz & Blues @ Your Library

Native Detroiter Kimmie Horne is a consummate entertainer and she is considered by many to be one of the most outstanding performer and recording artists to emerge from this area in years! Kimmie's beautiful alto voice couple with her unmatched ability to perform and entertain puts her in a category of her own.

She features classy blends of Jazz, Pop and Rhythm and Blues and taking her audience on a journey through time and an electrifying ride through various musical idioms. Having been compared to such legendary artists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne, Kimmie's performances revitalize their collective spirits. Kimmie Horne has the sass of Shirley Bassey, the sensuous whisper of Sade, the octane drive of Josephine Baker and the sultry interpretations of the great ones like Phyllis Hyman and Nina Simone.

There is a $5.00 admission fee for the show. Show your Friends of the Southfield Public Library membership card to receive a $3.00 discount. No charge for children under 12. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southfield Public Library and the Detroit Blues Society.
