Men's Empowerment Summit Seeks to Strengthen and Build Communities for Third Straight Year

Detroit, MI—Since its inception three years ago, the Man Up Summit has served as a catalyst for effective change, cultivating men (and women) to lead strategic, positive transformation in their communities and the world at large. Founded by DeAndre "D.R. Speaks" Riley, pastor, author and speaker, the Man Up Summit has yielded over 600 people in just two short years. Last year's attendees received a life-changing message from world-renowned author and motivational speaker, Dr. Eric Thomas, known by many as "E.T. the Hip Hop Preacher."

This year's summit takes place on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Village Dome Banquet Hall of Fellowship Chapel, 7707 W. Outer Drive in Detroit. "The purpose of the Man Up Summit is to provide the vital keys and tools to attendees, aiding them in the overall empowerment of men," Riley said. "What makes this year's summit different is that attendees will play a vital role in the event by submitting questions beforehand, which will be addressed by our speakers. This year's summit also features local influencers and change agents in communities throughout Metro Detroit and surrounding areas."

This year's summit promises to be an experience to remember with a plethora of community resources, giveaways, and a host of dynamic speakers, including:

·      Bishop Greg Davis

·      Welton Smith, IV

·      Devaughn Kelly

·      State Representative Jewell Jones

·      Christopher Martin

·      and nationally syndicated radio host, Willie Moore, Jr of Atlanta, GA.

Although many of the messages are tailored to men, women are not only welcome to attend—they are encouraged toas they play a vital role in men's empowerment. General admission tickets are $35. VIP tickets, which include admission, preferred seating, a signature T-shirt and an autographed book from the host, are $55.

#MotownWriters @Meetup - Canceled due to holiday! Library will be closed! Sorry! But this afternoon...

DUE TO THE HOLIDAY AND THE LIBRARY BEING CLOSED, we won't be having a meetup today at 10 am.

I'm so sorry for any inconvenience and poor planning on my part. Usually, we go across the street, but I've been a little overwhelmed and really forgot about this holiday.

Please forgive me deeply, but if you would like to join me THIS AFTERNOON at the Sisters In Crime Workshop I'll be conducting at 2 pm that would be just as perfect.

There is a small charge of $10, but trust me you won't be sorry. There will be resources and networking, so I really invite you to come!

#NaNoWriMo encouragement from @nanowrimotown plus #DoubleUPDonationDay TOMORROW @nanowrimo #motownwriters #writers #Michigan #Detroit

NaNoWriMo

Hello, Wrimos!

Tomorrow NaNoWriMo HQ is running a day-long writing and fundraising marathon. There will be virtual write-ins, Twitter shenanigans, and a special treat for anyone who donates $25 or more on that day.

In Lenawee County, we'll also be hosting a write-in from 1-3pm at The Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library in Blissfield. Other areas around the state may be having events as well. Keep an eye out for notes from my fellow "elsewhere" MLs.

NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit and this fundraising push helps ensure the programs can continue year-over-year. Your support helps cover the cost of sending materials to Young Writers Program classrooms around the world, bringing the power of creativity to thousands of children and youth. It also helps keep our programs and websites alive to continue making NaNoWriMo happen every November!

Hop online to take a look at the schedule of events and track our worldwide word-count goal during the day!

Cheers,
Elizabeth
