Despite the weather, our heads are already in springtime at The Tuxedo Project, as we anticipate poet and National Book Award winner Elizabeth Acevedo’s visit to Detroit for the 31st annualContemporary American Authors Lecture Series.
April can’t come fast enough for us. To speed up time, all we can do is read (and write), and we want to do it with you. In preparation for Acevedo’s reading and talk at Marygrove College, we’re kicking off our first round of CAALS programming next week with a FREE writing workshop and a host of reading and discussion groups around the city.
We hope you’ll join us and acquaint yourself with The Poet X.

Join local poet Michael Lauchlan for a 6-week creative writing workshop inspired by The Poet X and other writing by some of our time's most talented storytellers. This workshop is FREE and open to writers of all backgrounds, genres, and experience levels. Copies of The Poet X, Acevedo's poetry collection Beastgirl & Other Origin Myths, writing materials, and refreshments provided by Marygrove College and The Tuxedo Project. Just bring yourself! Participants in The Tuxedo Project’s programming for the Contemporary American Authors Lecture Series receive FREE or discounted copies of Elizabeth Acevedo’s novel The Poet X and her poetry collection Beastgirl & Other Origin Myths.
