Twisted Storytellers Brings Broadway Elite to DIA

Friday, December 16th

 

DETROIT, MI –– The Secret Society Of Twisted Storytellers will present "Whiz of The Wiz: Story Time with Dr. George Faison" Friday, December 16, 2016, 8:00 PM at Detroit Institute of Arts Film Theatre 5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202. Dr. Faison, internationally celebrated choreographer, director and writer will direct and choreograph the multimedia storytelling event.

 

Faison is the first African American to win a Tony Award for "Best Choreography" in 1975 for The Wiz. He has choreographed for The Cotton Club, Josephine Baker Story, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin and Alvin Ailey to name a few.

 

In celebration and honor of The Wiz's Detroit debut and the Broadway hit's 40th anniversary, Dr. Faison will share stories about his extraordinary life in the world of dance and musical theatre. Interwoven throughout the stories will be live dance and musical performances with orchestra conducted by Edward Gooch. This unique and extraordinary experience will be a unique holiday gem.

 

The Secret Society Of Twisted Storytellers next event, "BUSTED!" will take place at 8:00p.m. Doors at 7:00p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at Charles H. Wright Museum, 315 E. Warren Avenue Detroit, MI 48202. Featuring Twisted Storytellers Keith Collins, Eddie Hejka, Cynthia Shelby-Lane, M.D. and Matthew John Schmitt, along with Musical and Dance Guests, Sam Trump Harris and LSO Dance Company. Hosted by Satori Shakoor.
