Greetings DWW members!

DWW's 2017 Writing Competition is now OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!

First Place in each category: $100.00 and Certificate; Second Place in each category: $50.00 and Certificate; Third Place in each category: Certificate.

CATEGORIES:

The MacGuffin Poetry Prize: Maximum of 3 poems. Limit:  30 lines per poem.    

The MSU Fourth Genre Creative Nonfiction Prize: Essay, memoir, book chapter, humor, history, or other nonfiction.  Limit: 500 words per submission.

Adult Fiction Prize: Submissions that show excellence in adult fiction.  Limit:  500 words per submission

Young Adult/New Adult Fiction: Short stories, excerpts from novellas or novels. Limit:  500 words per submission.

Children's Literature: Picture Books and books intended for those under the age of 10.  Limit:  500 words per submission.

WHO MAY ENTER:

Open to Michigan writers 18 and older of any skill level.  DWW Board members and Conference Committee members are not eligible to enter.
All work must be original and previously unpublished.  Writers will retain all rights to their work. 

HOW TO ENTER:

 All entries must be submitted by mail as follows:

  • Contact information is to be printed on an index card (name, address, email, phone, category, and title of each work submitted) and submitted with your entry/entries.
  • Print the contest category and title of the work on the first page of each entry.
  • Submit works only in the English language and use a 12 point serif font such as Times New Roman.  
  • Include with your entry/entries a check payable to 
  Detroit Working Writers.  Please include fees in the following amounts: 
  $10.00 for one entry, $20.00 for up to three total entries, regardless of 
  category.  Once submitted, entry fees are not refundable.

Postmark must be NO LATER than AUGUST 10, 2017!  

Winners will be announced at the DWW Writing Conference to be held on September 16, 2017, at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy.

DWW reserves the right not to award a prize or prizes if enough entries are not received for a particular genre or the caliber of entries submitted is not strong enough to earn an award.
