 The Grosse Pointe Public Library will celebrate National Library Week, April 9-14, 2012. National Library Week began in 1958 with the theme "Wake Up & Read". It was conceived as an effort to get people to use their library and spend more time reading. While that still holds true, we offer many other services in addition to books. We have put together a wonderful series of programs which highlight the many roles of the Library in our community. Monday, April 9: We'll start the celebration on Monday morning, with giveaways at all three branches (while supplies last). Tuesday, April 10: Local Author Book Talk: Bill Rapai on The Kirtland's Warbler. Grosse Pointe's own Bill Rapai, author of a new book called "The Kirtland's Warbler: the story of a bird's fight against extinction and the people who saved it." Thursday, April 12: Introduction to the Nook eReader & the Library's Downloadable eBooks. James Robertson from Barnes & Noble will introduce us to the Nook eReader and demonstrate how to access GPPL's free downloadable eBook collections for the Nook. Friday, April 13: Friday the 13th won't be unlucky at all if you're thinking about renting a movie from our extensive (and super-inexpensive) collections! We will be giving out a Free Video Buck with any DVD rental that day (one per cardholder please). | DIA Inside|Out | | We are pleased to announce that the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) has installed reproductions of its most famous masterpieces from its collection in the Grosse Pointes, pleasantly surprising and delighting residents from April through June, 2012. Knight Foundation, 2012 is the third year of the DIA's installation of their popular project, Inside|Out, where they bring framed reproductions to the main streets and landmark outdoor spaces in Southeast Michigan. |

| | GPPL has launched STEP (Study-Tutoring- Enrichment Program) at the Woods Branch on school days, during the hours of 3:30-5:30pm. We offer homework resources, computer workshops & other enrichment programs. We are looking for Literacy Tutors: assist students one-on-one or in small groups to help them read and comprehend material in their grade level.
