MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS DAY EVENT THE BEST IT CAN BE

SIGN UP FOR THE ARISE DETROIT! NEIGHBORHOODS DAY WORKSHOP

THURSDAY, JULY 12, AT THE SAMARITAN CENTER, 6-8 P.M.

When ARISE Detroit! held the city's first Neighborhoods Day in August of 2007, we really didn't know what we were getting into.

After all, how can a small non-profit organization organize a citywide event involving hundreds of organizations and thousands of people.

Not only that, though many organizations jumped at the idea to host their own events - cleanups, health fairs, back to school events and more - not all were as skilled as others in pulling together resources, recruiting volunteers, collaborating with local businesses and using other strategies to make their event a success.

Some groups felt if they could not participate unless they held a big event with hundreds of people. Others felt that had to go it alone, and didn't look to collaborate with others who might be willing to  participate.

This year, for the sixth annual Neighborhoods Day on Aug. 4, we are hosting a workshop shop, Thursday July 12, at the Samaritan Center, from 6 to 8 p.m., to share pointers, strategies and tips on planning your Neighborhoods Day event. The Samaritan Center is located at 5555 Conner. The workshop will be held in the Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick Conference Room.  We will have presentations from past participants who will share best practices, dos and don'ts and more.

Click on the Constant Contact link below to reserve your spot for the workshop.

For those who have not registered, time is running out. The registration deadline  is July 15 to be part of a truly amazing day for  Detroit, involving scores of churches, block clubs, community groups and businesses. Register today at www.arisedetroit.org, or phone us at 313-921-1955.  For those doing community cleanups, we have cleanup bags that have been made available by Waste Management of Michigan. We also have five free cases of water for every registered group, donated by AFPD, formerly known as the Associated Food & Petroleum Dealers, as water provided by MGM Grand Detroit.  Some banners and t-shirts for registered organizations are expected to be available at the end of the month.

We hope to see you on July 12.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for more details on the ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day news conference on July 18, site to be determined, an orientation dinner to share information and stories from various community groups on Aug. 1, and an exciting kickoff event on the morning of Aug. 4.

Have a safe and blessed 4th of July holiday!

Yours for a better Detroit,

Luther Keith
