Library News

New Library Hours in Effect

While Library usage has steadily increased, tax revenues for the Library have decreased each year with a drop of more than $800,000 over the last five years. The Library has done everything possible to weather these cuts while still providing quality services and programming-with much help from the Friends of the Library, community partnerships, and the creativity of Library staff.

In spite of these efforts, these cuts have reached a critical point in the 2012-2013 budget year. Due to falling tax revenues and unavoidable budget constraints, we are unhappy to announce that the Library had to reduce staff, programming and operational hours.

The Library's new hours are as follows:

Sunday-Monday: closed
Tuesday: 10am - 6pm
Wednesday-Thursday: 12pm - 9pm
Friday-Saturday: 10am - 5pm

There will be a library millage vote on August 7th, 2012.

For more information about these changes and the state of your Library, please visitwestlandlibrary.org/budget.pdf or stop by and talk to us!

Family Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, Aug 18 | 11 am - 12:30 pm

Come be part of this summer's family competition!  Each family will get a sheet of items to find around the city.  Figure out where you can find the items, drive there and then take a picture (on a digital or phone camera) with your family in it.  Once you have taken a picture with all the items on the list, come back to the library to get a prize.  There is no time limit but the sooner you make it back the better choices you have of prizes!  You will need a car, a camera, and your family.  It will take between 45 minutes and 90 minutes.  You may not want to bring children younger than five since it involves getting in and out of a car multiple times.  Also, you may want to show some team spirit and pick a family color to wear!

Paint a "field of flowers" using the warm color tones of summer. For children ages 7 to 12. Registration begins August 7.
