Marie Antoinette makes her debut!

Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh begins tonight!

Wonder what this play, set 230 years ago in France, couldMarie Antoinette possibly have to do with modern-day America? Read this interview with the cast and director to find out.

During her own lifetime, rumors surrounded her that questioned her fidelity to her husband, her lavish lifestyle, and why the couple (who were married at 15 years old) had not quickly produced an heir to the throne.

Spiritiles: Brilliant Ride
Brilliant Ride

One of our favorite artists, and not just because he sends treats at Christmas and works with his mom, Wanda, Houston's work is truly magical.

Spiritiles easily hang on a wall or stand alone, capturing the Spirit of the Enlightened Moment. The imagery is created by hand in Atlanta, Georgia with colored glass, kiln fired to copper. 100% American Made. All the raw materials of Spiritiles are made in USA: the glass comes from the Southeast and the copper comes from the Southwest.

See the extensive collection here at Leon & Lulu or visit our online store. There is a Spiritile for every important occasion.

2011 Writers Market

Written by writers for writers and backed by 90 years of authority, Writers Market is the #1 resource for helping writers sell their work.

I'm on vacation this week, which means I've been spending time catching up on my writing-related activities—in addition to hanging out with my growing family. For instance, I'm putting the final touches on a new poetry collection.

This got me wondering how other writers spend their vacations? Do you get more into your writing projects? Do you push them away? Or do you shift focus to reading or something else?

Send me an e-mail at with the subject line: Writer Vacation, and let me know. If I get some cool answers, I may include what you have to say in a future blog post and newsletter.

Here's something cool! Award-winning author Patricia V. Davis will lead the live webinar Market Yourself and Your Blog on August 4. She will share the when, why, what, and how of successful book and blog promotion strategy. Plus, attendees will have the opportunity to receive critiques on their blogs. (Click here for more details.)

Also, don't forget to check out the Calls for Submissions posted below!

Until next we meet, keep writing and marketing what you write.

Featured Workshop
Welcome to the world of novel writing.  Writing a novel is no easy feat, to be sure, though when divided among the twelve weeks of this course, we'll have a far more manageable task. We'll employ Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird as a structural model upon which to base our own books, though keep in mind that Lee's structure is simply one possibility. We'll also take examples from more contemporary novels such as Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones and Elizabeth Strout's Olive Kitteridge.  Each week will consist of a writing assignment emphasizing that particular week's writing lesson, as well as your writing a 2,000–2,500 portion of your novel.

Workshop begins August 4 | Register Now!

Bonus! Save 15% on Workshop Registrations. Enter offer code SUMMER11 when you register! This offer expires August 31, 2011.

Featured Webinar
Getting a book published is simply the first step; you have to market yourself and your work to sell more copies and get follow-up book deals. Step by step in this seminar, published author Patricia V. Davis teaches you all you need to know on what to do to first build a readership through your blog, and then leverage that readership to sell more books. Social networking can boost your sales, and a writer's blog is their biggest tool.

Bonus Critique: Submit a blog URL and a brief description of their book or book-in-progress for a critique on how well they help promote the blog owner's (author's) work-in-progress and/or published works.

Live Webinar: August 6 | Register Now!

Recently, I put out the official call for submissions on three different publishing opportunities:

  • Write an article for the 2013 Writer's Market. I'm looking mainly for articles on the business side of writing. If you think you'd make a good interview subject, this would be an ideal time to get me thinking about you as well.
  • Write an article for the 2013 Poet's Market. With Poet's Market, I'm looking for both craft and business articles related to the poetic life.
  • Write a poem for the 2013 Poet's Market. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to submit three previously unpublished poems to be considered for publication in the top guide for poets looking to find publication.

Click here to find the complete submission guidelines for all three opportunities.
