The Alcona Writers Retreat will run June 4-7 in Alcona County

I'd like to alert the members of the Motown Writers Network about a new writing workshop. The Alcona Writers Retreat will run June 4-7 in Alcona County, near Alpena in northeast Michigan. Widely published Michigan authors with teaching backgrounds will offer 3-day classes in poetry, memoir and fiction. The authors are:

Kathleen McGookey, whose fourth and fifth poetry collections are in press and who teaches at Hope College

Anne-Marie Oomen, whose third memoir, "Love, Sex and 4-H," was published this month and who just retired from decades at Interlochen.

John Smolens, whose ninth novel will be published next year, emeritus professor at Northern Michigan University.

The nonprofit Inspiration Alcona is sponsoring this retreat in collaboration with the Wayne State University Press and with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan.

Learn more at www.InspirationAlcona.org. Can't make June? In September as part of an arts retreat we'll have songwriting taught by John D. Lamb and poetry taught by Jack Ridl. Same place for information.

Thanks for helping spread the word.

Yours,

Will St. John, for Inspiration Alcona
