The Detroit Writing Room Newsletter: Chapter 16

Coming up next week...

We're looking forward to popping bottles with you on New Year's Eve!

2019 was an amazing year for us. We officially opened The Detroit Writing Room after years of dreaming about a space where anyone could get help from professional writing coaches, authors could give book talks, local artists could exhibit their artwork, professionals could find a quiet and inspiring place to work, and Detroiters could express their creativity during open mic nights or writing workshops.

We're excited for everything we have in the works for 2020, but until then, we're opening our doors to celebrate the last night of this incredible year with you!

If you don't have a ticket to our "Improv in the D" New Year's Eve Show featuring Planet Ant and an open bar from Sumptuous Spirits, there is still time to sign up! (Special offer: Show your ticket to our neighbor Eatori Market and get 15% off your bill on NYE!)

Thanks for all your love and support this year! Happy New Year!
 ~Stephanie & Jake

Writing Coach Spotlight:
Delphia Simmons

Delphia Simmons is a bibliophile and a serial learner. For most of her life she's lived in Detroit, where she and her spouse are empty nesters with a daughter, two sons and six grandchildren. One of the vacated bedrooms was quickly turned into a home office with built-in floor to ceiling bookshelves. She credits her life-long love of books and reading for her love and deep appreciation of writing and writers. After graduating from Madonna University where she studied business, she proceeded to work in the human services/development sector where she learned to marry the two. She is the founder of Thrive Detroit Street Newspaper, business plan course facilitator and board chair of Build Institute, and the Chief Strategy and Learning Officer at COTS: Creating Opportunities To Succeed.

Delphia is leading a Business Plan Kickstart Workshop on Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. Whether you're just beginning to think about your idea, starting to put it on paper or un-shelving it to start again, the start of a new year is a great time to kickstart your business plan. Early bird tickets are $35 until Jan. 15.
