The Arts Council of Greater Lansing, in partnership with the Lansing School District, is pleased to announce a youth art exhibition March 4-30, 2012 in celebration of Youth Arts Month.  The exhibition will feature artwork from district elementary students to be on display at the Arts Council office at 1208 Turner St. in Lansing. The month-long exhibit is free and open to the public.

Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of arts education and to encourage support for quality school art programs.

"All LSD elementary students receive visual arts instruction weekly for one hour," said Doreen Meffert, Project Development Specialist.  "Art specialists work with classroom teachers to integrate the visual arts with literacy as a district wide curriculum objective to develop 21st century skills of creativity and innovation."

"Arts education provides youth an opportunity for social and personal development as well as critical problem-solving skills," said Arts Council executive director Leslie Donaldson. "We are thrilled to support the district and local youth by featuring their work in a formal exhibit in celebration of Youth Art Month."

Year Two of Partnership Between the Arts Council and Adams Outdoor Kicks Off
Melissa Dey Hasbrook Billboard

With an aim to promote area artists and create temporary outdoor "public art," the Arts Council has partnered with Adams Outdoor Advertising to produce billboards for artist member grantees of the Arts Council.  These billboards are initially placed outside of Ingham County in order to attract out-of-county visitors to the region and are moved periodically to different locations throughout the Greater Lansing area, on an as-available basis, by Adams.

Community feedback has been positive and indicates that the billboards are not only visually attractive, but are also effectively raising awareness about artists in Ingham County.  Arts Council Individual Artist Grantees who are currently participating in the program include: Barbara Hranilovich, Kate Cosgrove, Melissa Dey Hasbrook, Valentin Pulido, Diane Newman, Janel Shultz, Linda Beeman, Craig Mitchell Smith and Zahrah Resh.  For information about the Art In The Sky program visit our website
