Social Filmmaking:

Filmmaker uses Facebook and Twitter followers as cast.

February 27, 2012, Detroit, MI— Social media continues to permeate every aspect of our lives, and is now being used to create web based dramas that use Facebook friends and Twitter followers as cast members.  This new digital content creation allows social media followers to "act" in and help develop ongoing webisodes to truly create social TV.

Local New Media pioneer, Khaliph Young,  has produced, marketed and managed content on platforms such as Cable TV, VOD, Internet, PDA's and Mobile Phones. He produced Cinema Shorts, the first multicultural film on the internet in 1999,  created Cinema Culture in 2002, short films for PDA's and in 2004 started creating video content for mobile phone distribution in 13 countries.

The first webisode project is called Kolkata and is distributed by Nirvana Digital (www.nirvanadigital.com)  a company that helps content owners and producers distribute and monetize  video on a variety of mobile and Internet platforms worldwide including YouTube, Hulu, Amazon VOD, Apple iTunes Movies and other.Young stated, "Television is changing right before our eyes. Social TV is changing the way we watch television every day.  We see it all the time, twitter goers hash-tagging shows and interacting with each other while watching their favorite programs. The flip side of that is that now content creators and filmmakers can use social media as a way to create content that includes their social friends and followers. By including their audience in the creative process, gives a film more viral punch because everyone wants to share something they are a part of."

When Cinema Shorts was first launched, online marketing consisted of e-blast and having a website link put on other websites.  Social media now places the creative and marketing power in the people's hands.
