The Book Beat Summer Newsletter #bookstore #michlit #events

This has been a great summer for books - lots of exciting titles in paperback, new children's books and some amazing remainder sale-books have been arriving daily. Book Beat celebrates its 30th anniversary on August 19th - please save the date and stop by if possible - it's sure to be a memorable event. July 11th, Wednesday: Author/Illustrator Ruth McNally Barshaw

Join us at the Harper Woods Public Library (19601 Harper Rd., Harper Woods, MI 48225) on Wednesday, July 11th at 2pm to welcome local author and illustrator Ruth McNally Barshaw, creator of the popular children's series Ellie McDoodle. Ruth will be signing copies of her books as well as teaching kids how to make their own doodles and drawings of funny animals! For More information; click here


July 24th, Tuesday: Greetings From Michigan; 4 Young Adult Writers

Book Beat and the Baldwin Public Library present Greetings from Michigan, an afternoon with four Michigan authors of young adult literature.  Amy Ackley, Tracey Bilen, Beth Neff and Lara Zielin will be at the Baldwin Public Library (300 W. Merrill Street, Birmingham, MI 48009) from 1:30 to 3:30 pm  on Tuesday, July 24.  Combat any summer doldrums with an opportunity to meet four fresh new faces in the world of young adult fiction. July 26th, Thursday: Elmore Lenoard & Peter Leonard

Book Beat is pleased to welcome legendary author, screenwriter, and beloved Detroiter Elmore Leonard, along with his son, author Peter Leonard, to the Bloomfield Township Library (1099 Lone Pine RoadBloomfield Township, MI 48302) on Thursday, July 26th at 7pm. Elmore and Peter will be discussing their adventures in Hollywood, working on such critically-acclaimed series as Justified. For more information: click here


July 30th, Monday: Book Beat reading group meeting

Book Beat's Reading Group selection for July is Honore De Balzac's novella, The Unknown Masterpiece. The Reading Group will meet on Monday, July 30 at 7pm in the Goldfish Teahouse (117 West 4th St # 101, Downtown Royal Oak). Books are discounted 15% at Book Beat. All are welcome.
