Join the Friends of Chelsea District Library!
Who are the Friends of Chelsea District Library? The Friendsare a non-profit group who raise money in support of the library. However, they are more than that - they're us. They are people like you and me - people who love living in the Chelsea area and who love to get involved in this community. The Friends exemplify Chelsea's strong volunteer spirit, running the community's popular book sale every other month to raise extra funds for library programs and events. But the book sale is not enough to keep the library strong. The Friends need your help right now more than ever. Since 2010 state funding for our library has been cut by $112,000 in tax revenue, and more cuts are pending in 2012 with the elimination of the Personal Property Tax.
To give you some idea of how the library impacts our community, the following list of programs and events were funded all or in part by the Friends in 2011:
Kids Read Comics * Comedy Showcase Summer Reading Program * Books for Babies * Drama Week Authors in Chelsea * Music at McKune
For only $2.75 per day - the amount many of us might spend on coffee or lunch every day - you can become a Sustaining Member of the Friends. Every little bit counts, so donate today and help that major educational pillar of our community, the Chelsea District Library, stay the "Best Small Library in America" with the biggest impact. Cynthia Silveri
