How has your life (and our world) changed as a result? Journals will be available at the Reference Desk for anyone interested in sharing their post-9/11 thoughts and feelings through writing. 9/11 Memory Writing Saturday, Sep 10 | 1-4 pm This open-ended workshop is for all who would like to write about their experiences with this most heartbreaking and tragic of national events. View pictures, engage in discussions, and use writing prompts to explore feelings and experiences. Patrons are not required to write anything to attend. For those interested, their writings will be entered into the library's 9/11 journal. 102 Minutes that Changed America: Movie and Discussion* Monday, Sep 12 | 6 pm Join us for a viewing of the History Channel's 102 Minutes That Changed America. Kathryn Casa, former journalist and current Director of Communications at ACCESSDetroit, will moderate discussion before and after the movie. Let Dawn Montagano, scrapbooking expert will provide an overview of the whole process and an introduction to Studio J online design software. Computers will be provided. Baseball During the Civil War day, Sep 19 | 7 pm Join local historian and teacher, Jeff Koslowski, as he discusses the origins of baseball from its beginnings as a regionalized kid's game to a professional game resembling what we know today. Hear about the impact the Civil War had on the game and see reproductions of the equipment used during the 1860's. Also, get the inside scoop on the Historic Baseball Game between the Greenfield Village Lah-De-Dahs and the Westland Zip-a-dee-doo-dah's on Sunday, September 25th. Movies in the Library Documentary Movie: Restrepo (2010) Wednesday, Sep 07 | 7 pm Join us for a viewing of the documentary film: Restrepo. Spend 90 minutes in one of the most dangerous deployments for the U.S. military. Restrepo, nicknamed for a medic who was killed in action, is a strategically crucial valley in northeastern Afghanistan, the setting for the entirety of this documentary. No breakaway interviews, just constant danger, hard work, and the camaraderie of soldiers. Come spend an hour and a half in their shoes. Refreshments will be provided.
