Saturn Booksellers' Newsletter

For the many of you who have called or stopped in lately to find out when you'd be able to meet Michael Moore, I finally have news.
Saturn, along with two other N. MI bookstores (the three of us who were named Mike's 'favorite hometown indies'), will host a reading and booksigning at 7pm on Monday, Nov. 28th at the State Theater in Traverse City.
Although Michael had hoped to sign here in Gaylord, the last time we spoke he said that it looks like this will be the ONLY Northern MI event yet this year.  He has a crazy tour schedule and one day he's in CA and the next I hear he's in NYC, so, while his life is not his own, he WILL be ours for at least that one night - and you are invited!  Click here for event info.
The cost is just $5, and will go toward the price of books purchased at the event. You can order your event tickets online by clicking here.

                                         here comes trouble
You CAN, of course, order signed first editions on or by popping in or calling us at 989-732-8899.   Because Michael just sent out an email blast to his worldwide followers, we got slammed again with orders, but expect another 500 copies later this week. And THEN, the first editions will all be gone...

Did you know...
We are happy to be your personal shopper?  Just tell us who is on your list (name, age, interests) and how much you want to spend, and we'll do the rest - including wrapping and shipping, if you want!
We offer picture and board book gift clubs?  Once a month, we'll send the little ones in your life a book  - from you!

...and coming up...
We will be closed for Thanksgiving Day, and open at 8am on Friday morning with Black Friday (and Small Business Saturday, and, well, Sunday) Sales!

Watch for your Saturn Holiday catalog in your local paper - it has a coupon to save a bundle on a one-time purchase before Christmas!

Sat., Dec. 3rd is the Downtown Gaylord Holiday Stroll (sales, parade, Santa, carolers...)

Sat., Dec. 10th is our semi-annual FREE MASSAGE day with our friends from Kneaded Relief!

Watch our online calendar for the latest - seems like things just keep on popping here to visit the calendar on

New is our theme these days - new facade, new walls, and TONS of new toys and gifts and games to go with all of the great newly released books!
Here are a few of my favorites this week:

Speech Bubble Dry Erase Magnets
Speech Bubble Magnets - they're dry erase and come with a pen so you can put words in everyone's mouth!

lump of coal
Lump of Coal Game -
it's lump-of-coal dice in a cute little stocking with directions for a family-friendly game.  Good for everyone on your list, whether they've been naughty OR nice!

Also very cool:
Themed magnets that look like typewriter keys.

Buckycubes - the latest twist on the ever-popular Buckyballs. The cube shapes manipulate in different and endlessly fascinating ways (not for kids under 14).

Dr. Baffler's Muddle Puzzles - harder than they look!

...Or did you know...
Our online, virtual bookclub is always looking for new members who want to save money on their club selections and post their comments online...
We can offer you bulk discounts for corporate gifts or business purchases, and supply books for your speaking events.
...And last but not least...
It's already kinda crazy around here with the renovation, boxes and boxes of new inventory arriving daily, a Michael Moore event to plan, a holiday catalog to insert, bookfairs to plan and staff and, well, you get it.
This might be the last time I get to send an email newsletter for a while, so this is my big plea for you to remember Saturn for your holiday shopping - for toys, for gifts, for games, and, of course, for BOOKS!
We're proud to be your bookstore, and we're working hard every day to earn your loyalty.  Thanks for keeping us here!
