OverDrive service starts December 1st!

This month we'll begin OverDrive downloadable books for Westland residents interested in downloading audiobook or eBook files to their home computer, eReader or other device. eReader Information Session*

Tuesday, Dec 06 | 7 pm

Thinking about adding an e-reader to your holiday wish list, but don't know which one is right for you? We'll have an e-reader specialist from the Westland Best Buy to demonstrate the differences between the different brands and models. You'll get a chance to see up close the Kindle Keyboard and the Barnes & Noble Nook.

Future of NASA*

Join NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador, Sarah Smith, as she discusses the future of NASA and America's work in space. Sarah will have NASA goodies to give away to everyone who attends.

Cookie Exchange*

Sunday, Dec 11 | 4 pm

There are so many great holiday recipes, how do we choose? With a cookie exchange, of course! Share your favorite recipe with others and try out some new ones, too! Bring in your favorite recipe, 2 dozen homemade cookies and leave with samples and recipes from other baking enthusiasts.

Red Cross Blood Drive*

Thursday, Dec 29 | 10 - 4 pm

We will be hosting a blood drive all day in meeting rooms A and B. Make an appointment by stopping by or calling the Circulation desk, calling 1-800-GIVELIFE or just drop in! Donors with appointments will be given priority.

Gratitude Steel Band

Celebrate the sounds of the season, Caribbean-style, with The Gratitude Steel Band as they perform their "Holiday in the Islands" theme.

'Nique LoveRhodes

Sunday, Dec 11 | 3 pm

Join us for some afternoon hip-hop. 'Nique brings her own positive spin to this genre known for its verbal dexterity. Note: this concert has a later, 3 p.m. start time.

Kim Waldorf

Sunday, Dec 18 | 2 pm

Harpist Kim Waldorf performs soothing holiday music for young and old.

Documentary Movie: Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)

Wednesday, Dec 21 | 7 pm

Join us for a viewing of the documentary film: Exit Through the Gift Shop. Through his relationships with Paris' street artists, amateur filmmaker Thierry Guetta comes to focus on the ever-elusive Banksy, documenting his work and eventually becoming something of a street artist in his own right. By the end of the film subject and documentarist have switched roles, with incredible results. Brilliant documentary or elaborate artistic hoax? You decide. Refreshments will be provided.

Come learn how to make some beautiful paper ornaments for your Christmas tree or to give to others this holiday season. Instructions and materials will be provided.

Have a lot of people on your "nice" list? Make a gift for them that's fun, delicious and inexpensive. We'll show you how to make your own cocoa mix, personalize marshmallows, and wrap it up in a holiday package. A great gift for teachers and coworkers! All Ages Welcome!

A variety of free, hands-on computer classes are offered every month at the library. Space is limited, so sign up at the Reference Desk.

Chess Club

Thursdays | 6 pm

Saturdays | 1 pm

Like to play chess? Come to the Westland Chess Group and hang out and play a couple of games. Bring your own board or use one of ours. Novices to chess masters are all welcome.

Drop-In Knitting Night

Wednesdays | 7 pm

Join Linda Sparkman of Black sheep Northville as she provides group and individual instruction. All skill levels are welcome.

Job Seekers Lab

Tuesdays | 10 am - 1 pm
Wednesdays | 5 pm - 8 pm
Fridays | 1pm - 4pm

A librarian will be available to assist you in filing for unemployment, creating and uploading a resume and other job-related tasks.

Plastic Modeling Workshop

We'll try a new activity each month and play a different type of game. This month we will be playing different jump rope games! Make sure to wear comfortable clothes!

Get Up and Move! Preschool

Attend with your preschooler and learn fun new ways to play. Each activity will work on different skills like kick, catch, balance, and more. Come ready to move around and have fun!
