It's hard to believe that summer is almost over.  Auburn Hills Public Library has been busy with summer reading programs, books and prizes.  It has been an enjoyable experience to see all the excitement of children and adults reading the next best book or attending a summer program that would take them to another country without leaving the Library.

The Auburn Hills Public Library staff members would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the local businesses, individuals and the Auburn Hills Public Library Friends that contributed to making our summer reading program fun and enjoyable.

Adult Summer Reading Program 2011

The Adult Services Department concluded its Summer Reading Program on August 20. There were a total of 41 participants, including staff, who read a total of 414 items. Romano's Macaroni Grill in Auburn Hills generously donated gift certificates for the end-of-summer prize.

The theme for this year's program was "Novel Destinations," emphasizing literature taking place in different countries. Staff members who had collected items from their own world travels generously donated them to decorate our display cases, where they received lots of attention and admiration.

Once again, the Summer Reading Program worked with Michigan Animal Rescue League. For every item read, we placed a dog biscuit in a collection jar. Donations will be taken to MARL.

Book Bingo - Thursday, September 8, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Play Bingo at the Library to win book prizes, have fun and make new friends!  This FREE program is open to patrons age 15 and up.

Sit & Stitch is going on hiatus until further notice. We hope to bring it back soon!

Summer Reading Program 2011 - August 25 marked the close of another successful summer reading program for our children.  403 people in 125 families attended Award Celebrations throughout the day to receive their certificates and prize packages. The prize packages contained coupons (for free items donated by 29 local businesses) and other items such as bookmarks, puzzles and stickers.

Here are some of the statistics:

  • 78% of the children who registered actively participated by beginning reading charts. 83 % of those reached their goal-or a total of 246 children.  Those children logged a total of 7403 books.  Younger children listened to books read by parents and second graders and up read on their own.
  • 37 parents took on the "Parent Reading Challenge" in which they explored all of the areas of the Juvenile Collection.  15 parents read in all 20 categories.

CONGRATULATIONS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD READING!
