In this week's Spotlight we feature "The More We Get Together: Nurturing Relationships Through Music, Play, Books and Art" by Gari Stein
This novel tells the story of Adam Sneed, Jr., a construction project manager from Washington, D.C., and his unexpected rise to join the ranks of the world's leading international businessmen. In 1979, Adam is recruited for a two-year contract to work on a project in Saudi Arabia. From the moment his plane lands, he will realize that his expectations of Arabia are outdated. Adam will learn much about the land as he witnesses the shedding of its nomadic past and race to become a modern nation.
Two years will pass quickly and provide Adam a treasury of memories that include amazing discoveries, exciting adventures, humor, unforgettable characters and interactions with a surprisingly large population of Blacks (in 1962 a royal decree ended slavery in the kingdom and Blacks were granted citizenship). Adam will discover many similarities between Black Saudis and their cousins on the other side of the world and their admiration for Black American culture will warm his heart. Just as his tour ends and Adam prepares to say goodbye to his Middle Eastern friends, Saudi officials at the Ministry invite him to return to the project for another two years.
