Arts Council of Greater Lansing Welcomes Barb Whitney as Program Manager

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing, the capital area's leader for arts and culture, is pleased to welcome Barb Whitney to its staff as Program Manager. Ms. Whitney joins the Arts Council with 12 years of experience as an arts administrator and arts educator in Michigan, having served the last seven years at Lansing Art Gallery. She will join the Arts Council team on July 16, 2012 replacing former Program Manager Katie Robiadek, who transitioned out of the position on June 15 to enter a Ph.D program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

According to Executive Director Leslie Donaldson, the Arts Council chose Whitney for her experience in providing direct programs and support services to artists in Greater Lansing. Additionally, Whitney's extensive experience in developing and coordinating arts education curricula and managing data, contracts, and jury review panels will serve the Council's many grant and educational programs, including the Arts Council's SmArts Program, a professional development program for creatives.

"As both an artist and arts administrator, I have enjoyed first-hand the benefits of the Arts Council's mission and truly believe the programs and initiatives of the Arts Council make a difference in our community. I am excited to begin my work as Program Manager and look forward to serving the region in the interest of arts and culture," Whitney said.

"Barb brings a dynamic range of experience and relationships which will be invaluable to our organization and our constituents," Donaldson said.

Whitney holds a bachelor's degree in Art and Art History from Kalamazoo College, with a minor in music and coursework in K-12 arts education. In addition to her experience working as Program Manager for the Lansing Art Gallery, Whitney formerly taught at the Herlong Cathedral School in Detroit and was on staff at Pewabic Pottery. Whitney is proficient in Spanish and is also an experienced juror, visual artist, and musician. She lives in Mason with her husband, artist Jon Whitney.

Please stop by the Arts Council office after July 16 to welcome Barb to the Arts Council staff and the Old Town community!
