There is something for everyone at Lansing Community College's Summer Stage Under the Stars - including those who don't want to sit under the stars. Three outdoor shows at the LCC Outdoor Amphitheatre and two shows performed in Dart Auditorium promise to spice up the summer theatre scene in new and exciting ways!
The Summer Stage opens this Wednesday with "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," a show that's excellent for the whole family. An ensemble cast of six actors bring to life theclassic Peanuts gang, backed up by a piano-bass-drum trio make this a sure bet for a

summer evening of theatre fun. "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" runs June 20 - 24.
Unlike "Charlie Brown," Summer Stage's second play "Theophilus North" is most likely unfamiliar to most Lansing theatergoers. Written by Matthew Burnett, based on a novel by Thornton Wilder ("Our Town"), it tells the story of a young man working in the homes of wealthy residents in Newport, R.I., during the summer of 1926, the height of the Jazz Age. "Theophilus North" runs June 18 - 22.
Summer Stage closes the season with "Othello," performed by The American Shakespeare Collective (TASC), mid-Michigan's newest professional theater company. TASC makes its debut as part of a collaboration with LCC's theater program who are doing workshops with students, and a student understudy company presenting one performance of 'Othello' on Aug. 1. "Othello" runs July 25-29 and August 1-5.
Summer Stage concludes with a dance performance. The C/d Community Dance Project (a collaboration between Happendance and LCC) includes dances by both experienced and novice choreographers, who will be on hand to talk about their work. The program will feature a variety of dance styles, all leaning toward contemporary. The C/d Community Dance Project runs August 8 - 9. All plays part of the Summer Stage schedule are free of charge and perform at 8pm.
As an added bonus, Summer Stage Under the Stars has also programmed performances by "Layers": LCC Faculty Jazz Quartet. "Layers" features Dennis Therrian (piano), Jon Gewirtz (sax), Ed Fedewa (bass) and Mike Daniels (drums) performing original compositions and tunes from the Great American Songbook. "Layers" performers one night only, on Wednesday June 27 at 7pm. Find out more about Summer Stage Under the Stars at the LCC website.
