DPL Featured in the February Issue of Hour Detroit Magazine The Detroit Public Library's E. Azalia Hackley Collection is currently featured in the February issue of Hour Detroit magazine.
DPL's own Romie Minor, assistant manager of the library's Special Collections Department, was interviewed in the magazine's 4-page spread, and discussed the popular E. Azalia Hackley Collection at the Main Library.
Originating in 1943, the Hackley Collection was the first archive of its kind in the world and features over a quarter-million items from African Americans in the performing arts in the library's vertical file.
"It's a great resource, because a lot of people think everything is on the web, which it is not," says Minor. "People are astonished at what we have here."

 The Detroit Public Library and E. Azalia Hackley Collection present the 68th Annual celebration of the E. Azalia Hackley Collection concert with jazz band 'In the Tradition' on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Detroit Public Library - Main Library. The group has performed at venues and events such as: Arts, Beats & Eats, Baker's Keyboard Lounge, Detroit International Jazz Festival and countless other engagements throughout Michigan and Ohio. The E. Azalia Hackley Collection is one of the nation's foremost research collections for the documentation of achievements by Blacks in all genres of the performing arts. Tickets for the concert are $15.00 for General Seating or $30.00 for Reserved Seating, which includes a 1-year membership in the Friends of the E. Azalia Hackley Collection.
