Meet Three Authors & Illustrators

       



You're Invited!
The Chelsea District Library invites you to its third annual Authors in Chelsea event the evening of Tuesday, March 27. This literary event brings three nationally known children's authors and illustrators to Chelsea to present workshops to area schools during the day and to visit the library in the evening to give brief presentations, answer questions, and sign books. Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Chelsea's Just Imagine bookstore.

This year's authors and illustrators are: 
 
John Nickle - author and illustrator of The Ant Bully (made into the popular 2006 animated movie The Ant Bully, starring the voices of Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep),  Alphabet Explosion, and illustrator of the recently published, Hans My Hedgehog.

Tony Abbott - author of more than 75 books for elementary readers including The Secrets of Droon series, the new Goofballs series, Firegirl, winner of the Golden Kite Award for Fiction in 2007, and The Postcard , winner of the Edgar Award for the Best Juvenile Mystery novel in 2009.

     
           
Jim Ottaviani - author of non-fiction graphic books, Levitation: Physics and Psychology in the Service of Deception, T-Minus: the Race to the Moon, and  Feynman. All of Ottaviani's books have been nominated for awards, and  Feynman recently made Oprah's list of Books You Never Thought You'd Read (But Will Fall in Love with Instantly).

Authors in Chelsea is a joint venture of the Chelsea District Library and Chelsea School District and made possible with funding from the Target Corporation, the Chelsea Education Foundation, and the Friends of Chelsea District Library.

Endowment Fund

Endowment Fund 

The Chelsea District Library Endowment Fund was established in 1998 under the auspices of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. Its mission is to provide a permanent source of income to ensure continued excellence in the programs and services provided by the Chelsea District Library.

  

Your contribution to the Endowment Fund is a gift that grows. The principal remains intact, while the interest gained supports the programs and services you enjoy, and promises a rich library experience for future generations. In addition, your gift earns special tax credits

To make your donation online,

Go to the library's endowment fund page and follow the steps under Make Your Donation Online.      

To be sure your gift goes to the Chelsea District Library:

  1. Choose Agency Endowment Funds.      
  2. In the window that opens, scroll down to find Chelsea District Library and select by checking the box. Click Finished at the bottom of that page.      
  3. Continue completing the form with your information.  
  4. Feel good about your contribution to the future of your library.
Jazz Jam, Jr.

Jazz Jam, Jr.A hands-on, dynamic first jazz experience for children! Kids will improvise melodies, create riffs and rhythms, and listen to a jazz story with Chelsea Center for the Arts instructor, Tara Vesprini. Free!  In partnership with Chelsea Center for the Arts.

Library Closings

The library will be closed Friday, March 23 for a staff in-service and Sunday, April 8 in observance of Easter Sunday.
