Sonnets, Shopping & Champagne to benefit IO via InsideOut Literary

Feb. 23rd, 5 p.m. -- 8 p.m., at the Peacock Room to help IO match a $25,000 grant from Hollywood filmmaker Bob Shaye. Ten dollars from the sale of each Detroit Snob glam tee-shirt during SONNETS, SHOPPING & CHAMPAGNE and 10% of all sales at the Peacock Room on Feb. 23rd will benefit IO. Detroit Artist Carole Harris Celebrated fiber and quilt artist Carole Harris will also have a selection of her scarves available, with 15% of proceeds going to IO. "You never know what will spark a child. I started with piano, then writing, and finally I found my voice in textile based art,'' said Harris, whose work has been featured nationally and internationally. Also at the event, IO founder and Terry Blackhawk will debut her latest poetry collection, The Light Between and donate her sales to the cause. Pardlo, author of Totem, will read Saturday at 6 p.m at Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center 311 E. Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48226. His most recent collection won the American Poetry Review's Honickman First Book Prize." I try not to think about what constitutes an artist's life because I'm too busy living it,'' Pardlo said in a recent interview with Art Works. "By IT I mean doing the things I love (and there's no sarcasm here): washing dishes, folding laundry, sorting the recycling..."
