Reading Help Available for Adults*

The Westland Public Library offers literacy tutoring to adults interested in improving their reading skills. If you or someone you know is interested in this program, please call or visit Kristy in the Reference department.

Open Mic Night

District Coffee Hour

Monday, Mar 12 | 9 - 10 am

Join State Senator Glenn Anderson and State Representative Richard LeBlanc for a monthly district coffee hour. Ask questions and share your concerns with your local government officials.

The Writers Workshop critiques individuals' writing in a workshop setting. All genres accepted. We will tell you what is working with your piece, as well as what needs improvement.

Veterans Writing Group

Wednesday, Mar 21 | 7 pm

Join veteran and working-class poet, Mark Durfee, as he helps veterans of all foreign wars explore their wartime experiences through writing. Writers of all styles (poetry, fiction, memoir) encouraged to attend.

Writers Club

Do you have stories or poems or ideas you would like others to hear, but not critique, in a casual atmosphere? Led by Cheryl Vatcher-Martin.

Join Lois Gannon of Evolve yoga studio as she leads a beginning Hatha yoga class. Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Bring a yoga mat or towel, if possible.

Zumba Dance Party*

Lisa Davis will lead a Zumba Dance Party! The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and low tread shoes. All fitness levels welcome. No dance experience necessary!

A variety of free, hands-on computer classes are offered every month at the library. Space is limited, so sign up at the Reference Desk.

Like to play chess? Come to the Westland Chess Group and hang out and play a couple of games. Bring your own board or use one of ours. Novices to chess masters are all welcome.

Job Seekers Lab

Fridays | 1pm - 4 pm

A librarian will be available to assist you in filing for unemployment, creating and uploading a resume and other job-related tasks.

Documentary Movie: Bhutto (2010)

Wednesday, Mar 21 | 7 pm

Join us for a viewing of the documentary film: Bhutto. Celebrate Women's History Month with the story of Benazir Bhutto. Born into one of a wealthy and politically important family sometimes referred to as the "Kennedys of Pakistan," Benazir Bhutto was the first female Prime Minister elected to lead a Muslim country. Her assassination in 2008 shook the world of Islamic politics and turned her into a political martyr, as well as a symbol for democracy in the Middle East. Refreshments will be provided.

Art Start*

Join us as we use geometric shapes and vivid colors to create a cityscape. We will look at the work of Swiss artist Paul Klee (pronounced "clay") and his use of cubism and then create our own unique designs. Wear old clothes/paint shirt!

Pete the Popcorn: Author Visit*

Westland native and author Joe Kelley will read from his new children's book Pete the Popcorn. Visit with the author and enjoy popcorn and juice.
