New Library Director: Sheila Collins

Sheila Collins joins us from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, where she also served as Library Director. She has spent almost 20 years in public and academic libraries, after past careers in both dairy farming and general law. Dr. Collins is very pleased to join the team at the Westland Public Library: "I am very happy and excited to be here. I am impressed by the beauty of the library and its grounds, and by the number of patrons who walk through its doors each day."

Westland Public Library turns 15!

Next month the William P. Faust Public Library will celebrate 15 years of serving the community of Westland. Be sure to visit the library in early November to be a part of the celebration and learn about how far we've come since opening in 1996.

Join Sharon Strebbing of the Plymouth Westland Grange to learn more about local farmers and how to buy your food directly from the people who grow it. Documentary Movie: Catfish (2010)

Wednesday, Oct 19 | 7 pm

Join us for a viewing of the documentary film: Catfish. Who are your Facebook friends? Can you really know someone over the Internet? These questions arise when Nev Shulman, a New York photographer, begins a penpal exchange with a young artist named Abby, which quickly evolves into an entire world of online relationships. As curious details begin to arise, Nev and his team make a surprise visit to rural Michigan to finally meet Abby. What they find when they get there is shocking, sad…and fascinating. Refreshments will be provided.

District Coffee Hour

Join State Senator Glenn Anderson with State Representative Richard LeBlanc for a monthly district coffee hour. Ask questions and share your concerns with your local government officials.

Westland Writers Workshop

Tuesday, Oct 18 | 7 pm

The Writers Workshop critiques individuals' writing in a workshop setting. All genres accepted. We will tell you what is working with your piece, as well as what needs improvement.

Like to play chess? Come to the Westland Chess Group and hang out and play a couple of games. Bring your own board or use one of ours. Novices to chess masters are all welcome.

Drop-In Knitting Night

Wednesdays | 7 pm

Join Linda Sparkman of Black sheep Northville as she provides group and individual instruction. All skill levels are welcome.

Job Seekers Lab

Tuesdays | 10 am - 1 pm
Wednesdays | 5 pm - 8 pm
Fridays | 1pm - 4pm

A librarian will be available to assist you in filing for unemployment, creating and uploading a resume and other job-related tasks.

Teen NaNoWriMo Information Session

Can you write a novel in 30 days? We think you can. Find out more about participating in National Novel Writing Month in November. Set your word count, hang out with fellow teen writers, and sign up for teen NaNoWriMo, which runs the month of November.

Family Movie Matinee

Creative Crafts
