NOW SHOWING! Inspirational movies, minutes from home, come with friends for an evening to play, laugh and learn! GPPL, Beaumont Heath System & The Grosse Pointe War Memorial are co-sponsoring three movie nights to share and learn with friends.
The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest-running independent and experimental film festival in North America. Join us as we view a selection of 2011 award-winning independent short films from last years competition.
The program is free on charge, but seating is limited.
Hold on tight to your seats as our presenter careens you through the wild & extreme concept that everything that you do is a scientific occurrence! Watch as he rolls on inline skates to demonstrate the laws of motion, plays with special crystals to make water vanish, uses a gyroscope to illustrate a curious balancing act, shows slime oozing from polymers & much more!
Unquenchably curious young reporter Tintin and his fiercely loyal dog Snowy discover a model ship carrying an explosive secret. Drawn into a centuries-old mystery, Tintin find himself in the sightlines of Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine, a diabolical villain who believes Tintin has stolen a priceless treasure tied to a dastardly pirate. With the help of Snowy, Captain Haddock, and bumbling detectives Thompson & Thompson, Tintin will travel half the world to find the final resting place of the Unicorn.
Doll Tea Party tickets are still available at Central Library! But they're going fast! The Doll Tea Party will take place on Saturday, March 10, at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Advanced ticket purchase required. Tickets will not be available at the door.
Tickets $5.00 per person.
STEP into the Quiet Zone
Many middle school students spill into the library when the dismissal bell rings. They are waiting for rides, someone to come home to let them in, or stop in to visit with friends. The scene is a familiar one and managing a youth room filled with hungry, anxious, social tweens/teens isn't easy. Libraries play an important role as a community resource, and we are taking another STEP (Study ~ Tutoring ~ Enrichment Program). GPPL will launch a pilot program at the Woods Branch on school days, during the hours of 3:30-5:30pm. Partnering with the GPPSS, CARE of Southeast Michigan, school parent/teacher/community organizations, we will offer homework resources, computer workshops & other enrichment programs. All students must have a valid GPPL card as required ID. The program launches on March 26, 2012.
