He has lived in Brooklyn, New York; Geneva, Switzerland; Portland, Oregon; and Detroit, Michigan, where he was a Thomas C. Rumble fellow at Wayne State University.

Anca Vlasopolos has published a detective novel, a memoir, various short stories, over 200 poems, the poetry collections Penguins in a Warming World and Walking Toward Solstice, and the non-fiction novel The New Bedford Samurai.

She was born in 1948 in Bucharest, Rumania. Her father, a political prisoner of the Communist regime in Rumania, died when Anca was eight. After a sojourn in Paris and Brussels, at fourteen she immigrated to the United States with her mother, a prominent Rumanian intellectual and a survivor of Auschwitz. Anca is a professor of English and Comparative Literature at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She is married to Anthony Ambrogio, a writer and editor; they have two daughters: Olivia Vlasopolos Ambrogio and Beatriz Rosa Jimenez Ambrogio.

Stupor + Matthew Barney Zine Launch and Reading with Steve Hughes

Steve Hughes will drink beer and read from his stunning new zine STUPOR: WASHED IN DIRT. This issue of STUPOR represents a collaboration between the celebrated artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney and Hughes, a local zine writer.

It worked like this: Hughes collected and wrote the stories, and then Matthew Barney created all the artwork, including original drawings, photos, and collage. Hughes then printed and published full-color copies of the zine.

This reception marks the release of this previously unavailable Stupor. It also is your opportunity to listen to Hughes read WASHED IN DIRT the way it was meant to be heard.

Come, drink beer, buy a Stupor, and witness a rare, shining moment in Detroit's art history.
