State film Commish
Dear Friends –
There is a lot going on with the Michigan Film Office, so I wanted to be sure and reach out and let you know what we have been up to.
First, I am so excited to announce that we have approved our first film project under the new incentive program – Beside Still Water. This is a great story that takes place in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and is a homecoming of sorts for producer Jason Potash who is a native of Detroit. You can read the full release
here. We hope to be making some additional announcements on several other projects soon.
I also wanted to make you aware of a new report that has been posted on the Film Office
website. This is a report that is required by the new statute and gives a snapshot of our first quarter this year. We will do similar reports each quarter going forward. If you have any questions about the contents of this report, please give us a call.
We have been continuing our efforts to get the word out to the industry that Michigan has a new program and is back in business. I was in Grand Rapids for two separate events this week, talking about the industry and the new program. I will be out in Los Angeles next week meeting with the studios and other key industry folks talking about all that Michigan has to offer. The Film Office will also be hosting a business attraction event at the Coney Dog in West Hollywood following the AFCI Locations Trade Show in June – which we will have a booth at. Michigan remains a great place for film and digital media projects and we are making that case every day.
Finally, I want to make you aware of some great Michigan projects that are being released in the upcoming weeks. First,
Touchback will make its premiere at
Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids this Friday. Look for Mike and Tony from our office at that event. On May 3
Waterwalk will be premiering, also at Celebration Cinema North and on May 4
Giant Mechanical Man will open at the Birmingham 8 theater. Folks across the state can catch Giant Mechanical Man on demand prior to its release. Finally,
Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy will be making its red carpet debut at Celebration Cinema North on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. with an extended run at Celebration Cinema North, Rivertown and South to follow.
I and others from the Film Office will be at these premiere events so if you are there, please say hello! The Film Office is looking forward to these great releases and I encourage you to get out and support these made-in-Michigan films.
As always, please do not hesitate to email or call our office if you have any questions.
Best,
Carrie

Filming Locations Needed
Looking for a large estate with an outdoor or indoor pool for a 4 day shoot this summer. The house needs to be in affluent neighborhood somewhere in Grand Rapids.
____________________
Grand Valley State University Summer Film Program is seeking a private residence (home) location to shoot in late July (exact dates TBD) approximately 3-4 days. This home is to feature in our short film scheduled for limited theatrical release som in 2013.
No requirements/restrictions except property's location is somewhere near Allendale/Grand Rapids area. This is an on-going student film project so a donated site is appreciated, however, a modest rental fee, is negotiable.
