This is event part of the 2012 Hemignway's Summer Reading Series which takes place every Tuesday, May through July, at 8:00 p.m. at 3911 Forbes Avenue (in the backroom) in Oakland, MI. Meijer Foundation Supports the Made in Michigan Writers Series
Big news! The Meijer Foundation has announced a $500,000 grant to be paid over five years to support our Made in Michigan Writers Series! The foundation's generous grant will fund an endowment for the series, securing its long-term viability and growth. Plans include expanding the outreach of authors through travel and partnerships, starting an annual contest to nurture unpublished Michigan writers, and increasing the number of titles published each year. In addition to being published as printed books, all titles in the Made in Michigan Writers Series are available electronically; the Meijer grant will ensure that e-books in the series are available in the widest number of formats and outlets. Stay tuned for more information on all of these new initiatives in the months to come!

Save the date for the Midtown Literary Walk!
Several of our Made in Michigan Writers Series authors will participate in the inaugural Midtown Literary Walk on June 30--a strolling afternoon of literature hosted by several venues in our Midtown neighborhood. They will join a range of authors--from poets to rock 'n roll historians--to read from their latest work, and books will be available for purchase and signing throughout the event.

Awards News
Four of our books were selected for the 2012 Independent Publisher's (IPPY) Book Award! The IPPYs are designed to recognize independent authors and publishers who exhibit the courage, innovation, and creativity to bring about change in the world of publishing. Books are entered and judged in 65 national categories and 20 regional categories, and are also considered for the "Ten Outstanding Books of the Year." Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the top books, and the winners are honored at an annual ceremony each May. The IPPY contest is now the world's largest independent book awards contest, receiving over 3,000 entries each year. Congratulations to the authors of:
